Turbervilles’ Corporate/Commercial Department handles the full range of commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, disposals, management buy-outs and buy-ins, joint venture agreements, corporate restructuring, corporate finance, funding and commercial credit, franchising, and all types of commercial agreements. A particular specialism is in the area of PPP (NHS Trusts) and Health Sector Law.

Commercial Property

Turbervilles’ Commercial Property Department represents many blue-chip commercial organisations in their property work. The members of the Department have the collective experience and expertise to handle any type of transaction, whether a lease of a small corner shop or a multi-million pound commercial development, efficiently and cost-effectively.

Areas covered by the team include freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, commercial landlord and tenant, joint venture developments, funding and securitisation work, planning law, plot sales and development work, franchising agreements, PFI transactions and telecommunications leases. Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution

Turbervilles’ Commercial Litigation Department assists its clients in resolving all types of commercial disputes.

We always take a commercially minded approach towards resolving disputes, and are keen to recommend mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution where this may result in a quicker or more cost-effective outcome. We adopt a constructive and responsible approach and keep the level of work and costs proportionate to the size of the dispute.

If Court proceedings are necessary, however, our experienced team has the skills and resources to assist in bringing your dispute to a satisfactory conclusion. Members of the Department regularly undertake litigation in the High Court, County Court, the Court of Appeal and other specialist tribunals. Areas of expertise include business and partnership disputes, construction law, all types of property litigation, intellectual property, professional negligence actions, adjudication and arbitration, insolvency and debt recovery. The department also has a niche practice specialising in advising owners of residential mobile home parks.

Employment Law

Turbervilles’ Employment Department specialises in helping its employer clients to organise their internal systems to comply with new legislation and to minimise the risk of expensive mistakes by making sure they are ahead of the game.

We work closely and proactively with our clients to devise systems to help them avoid any pitfalls and to guard to against potential claims. We are highly experienced in preparing documents such as contracts of employment, directors’ service agreements, policies and procedures, and staff handbooks. We explain key principles, priorities and pitfalls in clear, straightforward terms. We make practical recommendations and give considered advice on best practice. Should the worst happen and you face a claim, you can be reassured that we are experts in defending employers in the employment tribunal.

We provide a prompt, efficient, practical and cost-effective legal service, which we aim to tailor individually to suit our clients’ requirements. The Department also runs a regular programme of employment-related seminars and workshops.

Licensing

We undertake all types of licensing work, involving premises as diverse as pubs, nightclubs, sports clubs, private members clubs, restaurants and hotels, specialist off-licences, supermarkets (including branches of national chains), convenience stores, wholesale centres, cash and carry outlets, health clubs and duty free shops.

The Department’s expertise includes areas as diverse as premises license applications, age-restricted sales, personal licence applications, review hearings, gaming and gambling applications, and explosives licences.

The quality of our service is enhanced by our involvement with the British Institute of Innkeeping (“BII”). The BII is the professional body for the licensed trade, with over 17,500 members nationally. Members of the team are Affiliate Members of the BII, and actively encourage their clients to receive professional recognition by becoming members of the BII. We are also pleased to be able to offer the National Certificate for Licensed Practitioners (“NCLP”) to those employed in the licensed trade.
