We undertake all types of licensing work, involving premises as diverse as pubs, nightclubs, sports clubs, private members clubs, restaurants and hotels, specialist off-licences, supermarkets (including branches of national chains), convenience stores, wholesale centres, cash and carry outlets, health clubs and duty free shops.
The Department is listed in both The Legal 500 and Chambers Directory of the Legal Profession as one of the leaders in the South-East in the field of licensing.
Our extensive client portfolio has been built up over a number of years and includes both local and national clients, including a large number of blue-chip companies.
Some of the Department’s areas of expertise include:
- Age-restricted sales
- Club Premises Certificates
- Gaming and gambling applications
- Personal Licences
- Premises Licences (new applications and variations)
- Review Hearings
- Temporary Event Notices (“TENS”)
- Transfer of Premises Licences
- Variation of Designated Premises supervisor
The quality of our service is enhanced by our involvement with the British Institute of Innkeeping (“BII”). The BII is the professional body for the licensed trade, with over 17,500 members nationally. Both David Smith and other members of the team are Affiliate Members of the BII and actively encourage Turbervilles’ clients to receive professional recognition by becoming members of the BII.
As part of the Licensing Act 2003 a new system of licensing has been developed. Part of this system is the new Personal Licence. In order to obtain a Personal Licence, an applicant must first sit and pass the Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH). At Turbervilles we are an approved centre to offer these courses to the general public and our clients. We are very proud of our “centre approval status” awarded to us by the BII Awarding Body (BIIAB), and as a firm we have been awarded the highest “Category One” status.
Our courses are run by our tutors in our independent training suite at our offices in Uxbridge over a one day period with an examination in the afternoon. Examination results are generally available the next working day. Our courses are run on a monthly basis, and the dates are listed in the “Training” section of our website.
We are also pleased to be able to offer the National Certificate for Licensed Practitioners (“NCLP”). This specialist course is available to those employed in the licensed trade in a professional capacity such as Council Officers, Police Officers, Licensing Managers, etc. For more information on any of our courses, please contact our Course Administrator.
